James P. Linn

Mr. James P. Linn, a Security Consultant to government and defense industry as well as an aspiring author, has over 40 years of diverse security management experience within the military, government civilian and private sectors. Mr. Linn retired 1 May 2009 as the Vice President for Security, Director of SAIC Corporate Security, after 22 years of service.

Mr. Linn began his SAIC career in 1987 as the Facility Security Officer/Contractor Special Security Officer at SAIC Corporate Headquarters, San Diego, California. He was promoted to Assistant Vice President in 1988 and assigned an additional duty as the Deputy Director, SAIC Corporate Security. The SAIC San Diego facility was a recipient of the Col James S. Cogswell award for security excellence in 1996.

Mr. Linn co-developed an MA/MBA Security Management Program at Webster University; and, he taught graduate level security courses at Webster's San Diego Campus from 1991 until 1996. Mr. Linn relocated to SAIC's McLean Virginia office during late 1996 and was promoted to Vice President for Security, Director, SAIC Corporate Security in 2000.

Mr. Linn is considered a national level expert on the National Industrial Security Program (NISP). He was a founding member of the Industrial Security Awareness Councils, a member of the developmental NISP Industry Team and supported the NISP Integration Team write/edit the initial National industrial Security Program Operating Manual (NISPOM). Mr. Linn served on the Board of Directors, NCMS for six years, was a member of the NISPPAC for 4 years and the Chairman, NDIA Industrial Security Committee for 3 years.

Mr. Linn served with the Defense Security Service from 1977 to 1986. He began his DSS career as an Industrial Security Specialist in the Baltimore/Washington DC area. In 1980, he was promoted as the Chairman, Industrial Security Department, DOD Security institute, Richmond, Virginia responsible for industrial security training for government and industry personnel.

Mr. Linn was commissioned as an Infantry Officer in 1967 and served a combat tour of duty in I Corps, South Vietnam, during 1967-1968. He was reassigned to the US Army Intelligence Center and School and subsequently transferred to Military Intelligence. After Counterintelligence and Vietnamese language training, then Captain Linn had assignments in Vietnam, Philippines, and Ft. Lee Virginia. He left active duty in 1975, but remained in the active US Army Reserves. He retired as a LTC (USAR) in 1992, after 26 years of service.

Mr. Linn has a BA degree from Chapman College and an MBA from the University of Baltimore.

He is the NCMS 2009 recipient of the Donald B. Woodbridge Award of Excellence.
